The Doom Patrol was a failed DC Comics series that ran from 2001-2004. The show was famous for its weird and wonderful characters, and it even had its own spin off title, Doom Patrol: Lost and Found . It’s been many years since the series was cancelled, but five years ago, Warner Brothers gave it a second life with a six-episode miniseries called Doom Patrol , which aired on Syfy. There was no DC Universe following up on the series, until Deadline reports that HBO Max has given the show a third season.
After a 12 year hiatus, DC’s Doom Patrol is returning to television. The new series will be a spin-off of the current Supergirl show, which is a spin-off of the current CBS show, which is a spin-off of the original 1960’s series. The reason for this seemingly convoluted origin story is simple: the rights to the Doom Patrol were sold in the early 2000s, and after a number of incarnations, it wasn’t clear who owned the rights to the team. In the latest iteration, the team has been rebooted, and now they’ve been turned into a dysfunctional family of misfits, a la the Ben Affleck-led Gotham City Sirens. And whatever else you can say about the new series
What happened? When did this happen? Why? What the heck is going on?! Fasten your seatbelts, this week we have a special guest for a special episode of the Plastic Paddy Band! DC fans, your favorite Marvel-based superhero team is back to battle the extraterrestrial forces of evil! Just in case you were concerned about the recent cancellation of the Netflix live-action series, you can now rest assured that the Doom Patrol will continue to be a part of the television landscape in a new way!
It’s a fact. The strangest superhero program you’ve ever seen is getting a third season. During DC’s FanDome virtual panel sessions, the news was revealed.
Another season of HBO Max has been purchased exclusively. HBO Max’s head of original programming, Sarah Auubrey, issued the following statement:
“We are pleased to greenlight a third season of the series to continue the unique style of narrative that has resonated so strongly with critics and fans alike.”
It’s encouraging to hear that people recognize the program for what it is. It seems that the showrunner and writers will be left to their own devices. Cliff Steele is played by Brendan Fraser, Jane aka Crazy Jane is played by Diane Guerrero, Rita Farr is played by April Bowlby, Victor Stone is played by Joivan Wade, Larry Trainor is played by Matt Bomer, and Niles Caulder is played by Timothy Dalton.
If you saw the second season, you’ll recall that it ended on a cliffhanger. (On HBO Max and DC Universe, both seasons are accessible.) The heroes went out to rescue the world, but things quickly became complicated.
Although there is no official launch date, a super-short video teaser indicated Season 3 would air in 2021.
“Doom Patrol” is a new series on HBO Max that is set to premier on April 16, 2017, but the show has no name yet, has no trailer, has no synopsis, has no release date or even actors.
